“It was an incredible experience seeing these large marine vertebrates in their natural environment, but perhaps it was even more so interacting and observing a team that dedicates a great deal of effort into both acquiring data as well as raising public awareness on these species which are vital to the marine ecosystems in the Mediterranean sea.” Michael Paris, 23, Malta

“. Maya Franzini, 16, Italia (Fidenza)

Amazing experience to get to observe such magical species in their natural environment, and on top of that, among such a great team aka Pelagos Crew: Roberto, Nino, Viola, Morgana, Tomaso and Federica. So many unforgettable memories, I am leaving a piece of my heart here in Sanremo.”

This fin whale (Balaenoptera physalus) was sighted last week by researchers and participants aboard “Pelagos” in the Ligurian Sea, NW #Mediterranean.

Sperm whales (Physeter macrocephalus) were sighted Sperm whales (Physeter macrocephalus) were sighted during the past week aboard Pelagos. As it turned out, one individual was a new one, the other one had already been seen last year; however, he doesn’ have a name yet. Other sightings were striped dolphins (Stenella coeruleoalba) and fin whales (Balaenoptera physalus).
